Bullying

At Telefon pa Hubentud we get a lot of questions from youngsters who call us about bullying.
It is an issue that causes many problems worldwide. Aruba is not excluded from this global phenomenon. In Aruba, bullying (called ‘Termento’ in Paiamento) is present in schools, sports clubs, among “friends”, in the neighborhood and even at home. We, at Fundacion Telefon pa Hubentud Aruba, want to tell you that you are not alone!

Bullying is one of the most frequently requested lectures at Telefon pa Hubentud Aruba. Fundacion Telefon pa Hubentud Aruba works together with Child Helpline International to combat the problem of bullying.

Nobody likes to go somewhere where it’s unsafe and where bullying happens.

• Bullying is a form of violence and must therefore be tackled,
• Bullying will not diminish if no attention is paid to it,
• Bullying always leaves scars in the life of the person being bullied.

This is why we take bullying very seriously, and choose to tackle this issue head on!!

It is very important to try to be there for each other, and support one another when facing the tragic acts of bullying. When someone is being bullied, TELL SOMEONE. Inform someone of the matter who can both, help the one who is being bullied, but also the one who is doing the bullying.

It is important for you to know that if you are being bullied, YOU ARE NOT ALONE in this.

Maybe it seems like no one in your class or at home can help you… You sometimes feel alone and forgotten…. But never forget that if you talk about the problem, there will always be someone who can, and wants to help. Do not give up by staying quiet. Change the situation by talking about it with adults, or other children who can support you. Also, never forget that you are not weird or stupid or annoying, it is the one who is bullying who has a problem in his or her heart and thoughts. In many cases, the one who is considered the bully has been bullied themselves.
