Children’s Rights

The right of the child is one of the most important guidelines for a foundation such as Fundacion Telefon pa Hubentud Aruba. We believe that all children of Aruba need to know what their rights are, and how to ask for them in a respectful manner.
When you as a child know what your rights are, you also become aware that other people have rights as well. You come to understand how good it is to talk about your rights and that your rights are being respected.
Once you know your rights, you function better in society, and will then also be able to stand up not only for your rights, but also for the rights of someone else.

• Children and youngsters need to know what their rights and duties are. This makes them more resilient.
• As soon as a child knows their rights and obligations, he/she develops better.
• Children who know their rights and obligations are more aware of human rights and tend to respect the rights of other individuals.

In our collaborations with UNICEF and Child Helpline International, this has always been one of the biggest topics in the projects and lectures that are discussed. Here on Aruba we see that many of the rights are being complied with. During projects the children are made conscious of their rights. Moreover, the parents and other adults are made conscious of this as well so that every child can have a safe and just childhood.
There is still a long way to go when it comes to awareness and Children’s Rights. For this reason, Fundacion Telefon pa Hubentud Aruba continues to approach many educational institutions with projects and lectures to make all children/youngsters /adults aware of these rights.
